Threshold of the Hotness Perception and the Distribution of Receptors of the Hotness

Abstract
The authors investigated first the threshold ¢¥of the hotness perception arid¢¥ the distribution of the receptors of the hotness in the oral cavity, in order to know whether, it originates only by pain fibers or it is a taste sense by the special taste buds.
The material of the hotness taste was an extract of the red ¢¥pepper harvested in Eosung, Korea.
The results obtained were summerized as follows:
1. The threshold of the hotness perception of red pepper extract in the value (M¡¾SD) of its concentration was 0.40¡¾0.156% in males and 0.41¡¾0.096% in females. The mean threshold in total subjects both in males and females was 0.41¡¾0.127%
2. The detection frequency of recepters of the hotness in the ¢¥oral cavity was abundant in following orders: the apex area of the dorsum of the tongue, the apex area of the buttom of the tongue, the root of the buttom of the tongue, and the anterolateral area of the dorsum of the tongue.
